50 new planets discovered by University of Warwick scientists

 Astronomers and computer scientists from the University of Warwick have confirmed the discovery of 50 new planets.

The fascinating discovery was made using artificial intelligence, and confirmed by a new machine learning algorithm developed by scientists at the university's astronomy department.

The size of the discovered planets range from worlds as large as Neptune to those that are smaller than the Earth.

It is the first time that astronomers have used artificial intelligence to analyse a sample of potential planets to determine which ones are real and and which are ‘fakes’.

The artificial intelligence calculated the probability of each candidate to be a true planet.

By confirming that these 50 planets are real, astronomers can now computer engineer vs computer science these for further observations with dedicated telescopes.

Virtual coding workshops prepare students for Congressional App Challenge

 App creation is one of the fastest-growing industries related to computer science, with over 5,000 apps being added to app stores and play stores daily. Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program in Clark County encourages youth in middle school and high school to give coding a try through the “Intro to Coding for the Congressional App Challenge” workshop.

These workshops will prepare youth to participate in the Congressional App Challenge, a series of regional competitions hosted by the U.S. House of Representatives to encourage students to learn to code and inspire them to pursue careers in computer science. Participants in the workshop will hear from congressional representatives, including Congresswoman Dina Titus, Congressman Steven Horsford and Congresswoman Susie Lee.

Amazon Chooses Marion Regional Career Center

 The Marion Regional Career Center has been chosen as an Amazon Future Engineer school as part of a program to improve computer science education access in underrepresented communities. Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) and New York-based Edhesive are partnering on the project to sponsor teachers and administrators to bring computer science to their schools.

Engineering Student Persuades Book Publisher to Remove ‘Master and Slave’ Language

 Soon after delving into the fundamentals of digital computing and binary code this past spring, Santiago Gomez, a Boston University engineering student, came across two words in his textbook that stopped him cold: master and slave. J-K reserves 4% seats in engineering, medical colleges for students from Ladakh

He said the reservation in professional institutions is governed in terms of Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act and Rules which have been amended post reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir. The Act and Rules do not apply to Union Territory of Ladakh.

“We started this initiative after realising that a large number of school students are not getting learning guidance due to various reasons during the lockdown”, said Prusty.

 In a bid to provide knowledge support to school students amid the Covid crisis, a group of students of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) at Burla are providing free tutorials and guidance to students only through their initiative ‘Unlock Education: The New Face of Knowledge’.

Founder Hrudanand Prusty who is a computer science average salary student of the university, said the virtual tuitions are being provided to students of Class VIII to Class X belonging to any of the three boards in the State. 

“We started this initiative after realising that a large number of school students are not getting learning guidance due to various reasons during the lockdown”, said Prusty. The initiative was started as a Facebook page in first week of July by Prusty along with two of his batchmates Ankita Meher and Ayushi Swain. Subsequently, a core team of 12 students of VSSUT was formed.

Realising that not all school students have access to education amidst the coronavirus crisis, a group of students of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) at Burla are providing free tutorials and guidance through their initiative ‘Unlock Education: The New Face of Knowledge’, reported The New Indian Express (TNIE).

Founder Hrudanand Prusty, a BTech (Metallurgy) student, said the virtual tuitions are being provided to students of Class VIII to X belonging to any of the three boards in the state, the report said.

“We started this initiative after realising that a large number of school students are not getting learning guidance due to various reasons during the lockdown,” TNIE reported Prusty as saying.

What started as an initiative by Prusty and his two what is the difference between computer science and computer engineering and Ayushi Swain on Facebook in the first week of July, is now a 50-member strong group with students from different colleges.

Now, apart from clearing their doubts on a WhatsApp group, students also clear their doubts on audio and video calls, besides lectures on YouTube. The ‘Unlock Team’ remains online from 6 am to 1 am every day.
